Borders are open
How great is the risk.
Well if the borders are locked down only allowing returnees back into the country in a stricter more orderly manner. There would be less chance of being in the situation we are now in.
Level 2 level 3 another massive hit to the economy. Also the hidden cost of frustration upheaval relationship issues and so on.
Do any of our Leaders really fully understand how the NZ economy works. There are few, not many and not enough.
I think it should be mandatory for any government elect that all members need to have some practical experience of small business New Zealand. I’m not saying they all need to own or run a business, maybe we can offer courses to give greater understanding.
Their attitude would change dramatically.
Small business NZ is sitting atop a razor sharp knife right now. Any sudden movement and the knife cuts deeper.
Lock down is just that impetus.
I heard somewhere the other day that around 280,000 people are directly affected by lockdown, not able to go to work etc.
The reality is that the knock on effect is barely calculable.
One lockdown uses up reserves and savings. The wage subsidy, if you qualify, certainly helps though not nearly enough.
A popular economic theory which has prevailed in NZ for close to 30 years, is the more property you own the wealthier you are. How many people are employed by property owners. They may have some service crew to look after rentals or choose to leave their properties empty, relying on buoyant markets to realize a capital gain. Or they may maintain the properties themselves.
Small business is everything including the aforementioned. The grocer, the dairy, the nail place, the cafรฉ, the restaurant, taxis the list goes on. All of these businesses are connected by way of trade. Yes that word, merchant of old, who buys or makes or sells something.
I’m not an economics professor but a pretty down to earth small business manager. Team New Zealand is great I love the show. It’s top of the pops. As for Jacinda and Ashley they are both my heroes right now.
Election
So get this. I don’t want an election. I believe Jacinda could make the first President of NZ. I also believe she should invite worthwhile members of all the parties. There are some good people in the mix. We Don’t want politicians, we want leaders and people with sound ideas and a willingness to get the job done. I don’t care if its national or labour or NZ first, or greens, or the Maori party, even Act. They all have something they could offer.
This is a crisis.
Cancel the election for two years . Invite a coalition of all the best that can make a contribution to sort out this mess. Assign the Border control to military with civil assistance. Lock those borders down for two years mandatory with few exceptions .
Returning folk could be metered back in, they’ve had lots of time to return . Because until you do nothing will change.
Do you want to go to level four. Do you want a country or a society breaking down under social and financial pressure.
What happens when a family is unemployed both loose their jobs . Then the house then the car . This is really serious. Do something now.
As to all the idiots out there wear, your mask if you go out and social distance. We have a small population, no excuse to crowd. That’s what cows and sheep do.
